New Job | Director of Scouting

Fulham Football Club is recruiting for a Director of Scouting. We view this role as an important part of our ambition to establish Fulham as a successful and sustainable club and we welcome applications from candidates of the highest calibre who can help us deliver our goals.

The Director of Scouting will be required to lead the First Team scouting group, with the aim of identifying, analysing and recommending the best and most appropriate players to meet the Club’s objectives. Reporting into the Director of Football Operations, the Director of Scouting will be required to work closely and collaboratively with various other key roles in the Club, including the Chief Executive Officer and the Head Coach.

Key responsibilities:

The key responsibilities for the Director of Scouting will include (but may not be limited to) the following:

  • Liaising with the Director of Football Operations, Assistant Director of Football Operations, Head Coach, Head of Football Development and Chief Executive Officer to deliver the First Team recruitment strategy;

  • Creating and implementing a “best-in-class” approach to the identification and scouting of players which meets First Team recruitment strategy and the sporting objectives set by the Club;

  • Managing the Club’s First Team scouting group to ensure that resources are properly deployed (by way of live and video scouting) to identify and/or analyse players from within the UK, around Europe and beyond;

  • Liaising with an established network of contacts from clubs, players, coaches, and intermediaries to support the scouting process and gain market intelligence;

  • Ensuring that incisive, relevant, and timely analysis of players is delivered to the Director of Football Operations, Head Coach, Head of Football Development and Chief Executive Officer;

  • Understanding the make-up of the Club’s current playing staff (both in the First Team and about to graduate from the Academy) and the playing philosophy of the First Team;

  • Creating clear reports and presentations on players (including as to their technical and tactical ability, physical attributes, psychological profile) and the teams that they play for and/or against, to determine their suitability for possible recruitment; and

  • Ensuring that current and historical technical player data and scouting reports are properly recorded and protected.

Key experience, skills and qualifications;

  • Previous experience in elite professional football;

  • Scouting experience at the highest level of English or European football;

  • Experience of managing scouting teams and organising scouting resources;

  • Relevant scouting qualifications (FA Talent ID Level 4, Level 5 or equivalent);

  • A proven track record in identifying, scouting and/or recommending successful players;

  • A proven track record of making a material difference to the on-field success of a club;

  • Excellent knowledge of players and teams in the Premier league, EFL and in other leagues in Europe, South America and North America, both as to proven and emerging talents;

  • An established network of senior contacts across the domestic and international game, including in relation to club officials, coaches, scouts, players and intermediaries:

  • The ability to deliver clear, incisive, and relevant information on players, both in written and oral form;

  • Experience in making clear and unequivocal recommendations on players; and

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, working in line with the Club Values.

Exceptional communication skills are essential for this role, you must be able to confidently converse with a wide audience of people from varying backgrounds assertively and effectively.
